Factors that Cause Hair Loss in Men

It is normal to lose hair at some point in their life. Hair loss is widespread, especially in men. Although women suffer from some degree of hair loss, they are lucky that for them baldness is not the word. Instead, they suffer hair loss evenly spread over the whole scalp. Here are some reasons why men are facing balding.

Balding Gene

genetic baldness hair lossGenetics is one of the causes of hair thinning more so in men. Most men have the balding gene in their DNA which determines how and when they will lose hair. A significant percentage of men who experience hair fall face the problem of the genes. If there are bald heads in your family, there are chances you will end up hairless when you get old. Heredity hair loss, however, does not wait for you to turn 50, it starts showing up in mid-thirties.

Uniform Hair Loss

Most women and some men experience a uniform hair thinning across all areas of the head. It usually is difficult to detect as compared to female or male pattern baldness. The hair growth cycle is divided into three phases. The growth stage, rest preparation stage and the resting phase. It is therefore normal to shed a hundred hair daily. However, in people suffering from uniform hair loss more hairs start undergoing the resting phase.

Hormonal Hair Loss

The hormone Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) is the main culprit of baldness in men. In men suffering from hormonal hair loss, a given quantity of reproductive hormone testosterone starts converting into DHT. Although some medicines can inhibit this conversion and show good results, there is no permanent cure, and the symptoms start coming back when you stop taking the medication.

Stress

Besides being bad for your overall health, stress is also bad for the hair. Men who undergo emotional or physical trauma show signs of hair loss some months after the incident. Therefore if you are losing your hair without any reason, look back at your life if you have undergone traumatic experiences in the last few months. Hair loss due to stress is fortunately usually reversible, and once you manage stress, the hair starts growing back.

Diet

At time nutritional deficiency can cause hair thinning. The body requires nutrients like iron, omega three fatty acids, proteins, and vitamins. Some minerals also play a vital role in keeping the hair strong and healthy. These include selenium, zinc, iodine, and silica. Lacking these minerals or nutrients can adversely affect your hair and trigger hair fall. You can reverse the deficiency by consuming balanced diets and taking sufficient amounts of the minerals and nutrients.

Smoking, as well as environmental pollution, can also cause Hair loss. These are some of the factors that lead to hair loss. Try to avoid the ones that are avoidable.
