Shorewood Packaging was established as a private company in 1967. One of the company’s first achievements was introduction of the Shorepak®, a one-piece record jacket designed by Shorewood. The Shorepak quickly became the standard for the record industry throughout the United States, Canada and Europe. From there, Shorewood grew into one of the top suppliers of packaging for the international music industry, keeping pace with the music business’ explosive evolution from LPs to cassettes to compact discs.
By 1986, when Shorewood became a public company, it had begun to expand its operations and technologies through a series of acquisitions in the US and Canada, diversifying into a variety of markets, including pharmaceutical, personal care, cosmetics and food as well as home entertainment. In 1998, Shorewood moved from the NASDAQ to the New York Stock Exchange and expanded overseas, opening its packaging operation in China the same year and its UK facility in South Wales in early 2000. In April of 2000, Shorewood Packaging was acquired by International Paper and joined its Consumer Packaging Group. The company has continued to grow with the addition of Shorewood Digital (electronic prepress services), Shorewood Display and new facilities in Poland and South Korea. Today, Shorewood Packaging has multiple manufacturing operations in the North America, Europe and Asia.
