Single Pass Inspection (SPI) Machines (Security, Slitting and Rewinding)
SPI is a single pass inspection system for the automated high-speed verification and certification of labels for security sensitive industries, including pharmaceuticals.
SPI inspects, repairs, re-inspects, slits and rewinds all in one pass. SPI is equipped with an active web storage accumulator located on the exit side of the vision system. When a fault is detected a signal is generated for the machine to stop with a controlled deceleration. The machine then reverses and the fault is placed on the editing table located before the vision system. During this process the slitting and rewinding sections of the machine remains frozen. There is no reversing of the web in this zone. The material needed to reverse and place the fault is taken from the active web accumulator. This feature ensures the integrity and quality of slitting and the finished roll is uncompromised.
Once the fault is edited by the operator, the machine start mode is activated and processing resumes. The fault is re-inspected by the vision system. The forward motion of the unwind, inspection and accumulator sections start and when the accumulator reaches a predetermined position, the slitting and rewind sections start and the machine resumes full production speed.
Dual Pass Inspection (DPI) Machines (Security, Slitting and Rewinding)
In the dual pass mode, the bi-directional inspection machine reverses the web to the operator correction position when faults are detected. The web is then re-inspected to ensure that the necessary corrections have been performed.
When the entire web has been verified to be 100% correct, the machine enters a uni-directional mode to perform the finishing functions of slitting and rewinding. This non-stop second pass improves slitting accuracy and ensures rewind roll tension consistency.
SPI and DPI accommodate multiple inspection functions such as bar code verification, matrix/missing label detection, flag and mill-splice detection, as well as print quality and count verification. Both systems can be equipped with multiple slitting methods, a leader and trailer creation system as well as multiple row back numbering. Log reports for audit tracking and core-label printing systems are also available.
