Rollprint Packaging Products, Inc., recognized worldwide as a leader in flexible packaging technology, has kicked off its year long 75th anniversary celebration.
“We are proud of our latest milestone. It gives Rollprint another opportunity to renew its commitment of providing healthcare and food customers with leading edge structures to meet their stringent packaging objectives,” says Dhuanne Dodrill, president.
In keeping with that goal, Rollprint recently launched a new generation, peelable chevron header pouch, called Duet, which reduces costs while offering improved aseptic presentation of medical products.
As the developer of the original header bag in the late ‘60s, Rollprint felt it was time to bring a new generation to the marketplace which improves functionality while reducing cost.
“Going forward, not only do we want to continue our focus on leading edge technologies and custom applications, but we also will be applying our expertise to additional mainstream products. We realize that today’s healthcare and food packers require both innovative and traditional structures. We want Rollprint to be the company that can fulfill all of their flexible packaging needs,” Dodrill explains.
In addition to its many product introductions, Rollprint recently expanded its geographic reach by forming Alliantz Flexible Packaging, a joint venture between itself and Acme Packaging Co. (Pte) Ltd., Singapore to serve the flexible packaging supply needs of Southeast Asia and China.
“Increasingly, we are all becoming part of a global economy. As a result, one of our goals is to continue to expand Rollprint’s worldwide imprint through acquisitions,” Dodrill says.
Privately-held Rollprint was founded in 1933 and was purchased by the Dodrill family in 1975.The company flourished under Robert Dodrill, who continues today aschairman of the board. Bob Dodrill was instrumental in bringing a new level oftechnological innovation to the flexible packaging sector.
One of the first introductions under his leadership was Rollprint’s RP-1A heat-seal coating. Its very broad operating window, continues to make it a frequently- specified product today. Additionally, in the late ‘60s, the company was one of the first to introduce coated Tyvek® to the healthcare market. In the past decade, Rollprint became known for its extrusion coating expertise.
“We started with extrusion coating polyester sealants into film and then expanding into peelable extrusion coated polyester sealants. Our structures have very good temperature resistance. They are ideal for high heat applications such as dry heat or autoclave sterilization methods. Another desirable aspect of polyester sealants is that they are chemically ‘clean.’ They don’t leach into, nor do they tend to scalp compounds out of products,” Dodrill says.
In 2004, Dhuanne Dodrill was named president and is charged with positioning the company to effectively compete in the new millennium.
“In addition to the leading edge technology, which we have always been known for, we are continuing internal lean manufacturing improvements so that our products can stay cost-competitive.We realize that our ability to engineer cost out of our manufacturing, while still maintaining our high level of reliability and consistency, will help our customers meet their profitability goals,” she notes.
