Premium Brand Uses Resealable Packaging to Help Communicate Quality
Tillamook Cheese, a premium cheese manufacturer and farmer-owned cooperative located in Tillamook, Oregon, recently refreshed its 8 ounce shredded and blended shredded cheese flexible packaging with ZIP-PAK® DoubleZip™ resealable technology to help communicate the high quality of the product inside.
After examining the findings of consumer research studies, Tillamook identified a disconnect between the premium nature of its products and the packaging. To capitalize on the opportunity to communicate product value through packaging, the company decided to update package graphics, modify its marketing messages and incorporate DoubleZip resealable technology.
“Consumers were confirming that our product was high quality, but the packaging didn’t reflect that attribute,” says Tillamook Cheese’s Senior Brand Manager, Kathy Holstad. “As a premium brand, it is important for us to present our product in packaging that reflects the quality of our products. DoubleZip helps us communicate that message from the outside as well as the inside.”
DoubleZip is ergonomically designed and features two sets of interlocking profiles strategically spaced to guide consumers’ fingers along a path when closing a package to help ensure complete bag closure after every use to maintain freshness. Dual profiles enhance seal strength to prevent accidental package opening and spillage onto refrigerator shelves.
“Our resealable technology helps premium brands communicate value while offering the consumer the convenience and freshness they expect,” says Elizabeth Sheaffer, Marketing Manager for Zip-Pak. “A resealable closure has become a great way to position a brand based on its quality in the increasingly competitive cheese market.”
Tillamook cheese is sold throughout the United States and is available in most major retailers west of the Rockies. The farmer-owned coop is celebrating its 100 year anniversary in 2009.
