Clamshells

A hinged 3 dimensional, clear thermoformed package, fully enclosed, roughly resembling the typical sea `clamshell` thus the name. Many variations are available.

Blisters

A basic 3 dimensional, clear thermoformed package, with an open bottom, usually used to enclose a product and subsequently sealed onto a printed paper-board card, creating a point of purchase product, usually hanging on a peg board type display.

Tri-Folds

A 3 dimensional package, which when folded together creates a fully enclosed container that can either be free standing and or able to hang on a point of purchase peg board style display.

Tri-Folds are a variation of the basic clamshell design, but have many more optional design configurations available.

Thermoformed Packaging

At Pro-Form Packaging we have manufactured thousands of different thermoformed articles. Most likely we have already made a product similar to your requirement. This picture here is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to products we have made and continue to form every day. We have multitude of equipment and process technologies to make your project a success.

Clamshells

Clamshells are manufactured from:

  • (RPET) Recycled PolyEthylene Terephthalate
  • (APET) Amorphous PolyEthylene Terephthalate
  • (PET) PolyEthylene Terephthalate

A very inert, durable plastic (polymer) commonly used in the manufacture of the typical clear Soda Pop bottles. PVC poly (vinyl chloride) is also available to be used for some clamshell designs. Clamshells with both plastics above can be manufactured in colors if volumes are sufficient.

Platforms

A platform is basically a tray.  A single or multi cavity tray that holds various products for use as an insert or in a corrugated box

The carton either has a printed outside surface or an outside printed surface and a glassine (cellophane) window allowing viewing of the contents with out opening the package. Occasionally the outer carton is plain white or natural chipboard and placed in an outer corrugated carton to facilitate parcel shipping. Typical products in a platform are cosmetic products such as tubes and bottles of cosmetic products. Bottles of liquor, glasses, gift sets, and computer components like a mouse or accessory PC boards. Any product can be placed in a platform and carton.  This is normally used for consumer
products sold at retail or mail.

The Trays can be a simple tray, a double wall male / female tray with tight fitting, contoured cavities matching the products shape.

The polymers (Plastics) chosen are usually colored or clear depending on the color scheme of the product and company selling the product. HIPS, PVC and PET as well as HDPE are the most widely used material in a platform. Flocked (Felt like) materials are commonly used as well. This gives the product a soft feel and high quality high-end appearance. Typically watches, jewelry, and some cosmetics are packaged in these Flocked / Felt like Platforms. A jewelry box can be used instead of a corrugated carton to hold the platform.

Techniques such as cutting out the corners (tunnel cut) of the tray to provide a tight carton fit with no gaps are made. Features like standoffs (posts) or lugs can be added to keep the platform snug in the outer container. Hot tamping or various methods of printing are available to be used to display the company logo or as identifies of the various product in each internal cavity. Many variances can be made using this Platform technology. Single or Double platforms can be produced to suit many different needs.

Platforms provide a visually pleasing product presentation, keep the product secure in shipping and handling and can provide a convenient reusable container for the consumer and user of the final product.

Trays

A Thermoformed tray is a very broad term. A Basic tray is a three dimensional box with three sides closed and the top open.

Reels

Reels, sometimes also know as spools are thermoformed one half at a time and subsequently fastening the two halves together.

A center third cylinder can be added to extend the width of the media being wound on the reel. Drive dogs as well as starter access ports can be integrated allowing easy use on a winding or unwinding machine. Ribbons of continuous metal stampings, various tapes and ribbons can be stored on these products for in-house Dunn age or as a final holder for end customer use.

Thermoformed Products

Heavy Gauge

Pro-Form Packaging can provide Thermoformed (Vacuum Formed) products manufactured in what is termed "HEAVY GAUGE" plastic materials These are products above 40 mils (0.040") up to 3/8" thick material as well as large parts measured in feet. High-speed processes are available for sheet gauge up to 100 mils (.100") as well as traditional cut sheet forming and trimming. This process reduces the cost over traditional cut sheet processes.

Trimming available:

  • CNC controlled multi-axis trimming
  • Manual trim
  • Saw Cutting
  • Die Cutting
  • Routing
  • Assembly
  • Welding
  • Fabrication Hybrids

ESD (Electronic Antistatic Dissipative)

Pro-Form Packaging manufactures many varieties of electronic component trays, clamshells, flange folded tray clams, two piece tray and cover designs etc. Using ESD coatings we are able to reduce the possibility of random electrical static generation. By making the polymers surface conductive, the subsequent products become friendly for use in a manufacturing environment where a static discharge will damage other semi conductors used in the assembly of the final components.

Other Products Include

  • Cups
  • Medical Packaging
  • POP (Point of Purchase) etc
