Mohawk is a fully-integrated flexible packaging manufacturer providing products to the food, beverage, home and garden, and industrial markets.

Ampac Packaging LLC has acquired privately-held, Mohawk Northern Plastics, Auburn, WA for an undisclosed amount.

Mohawk is a fully-integrated flexible packaging manufacturer providing products to the food, beverage, home and garden, and industrial markets. Known for its high-performance Apex2000 and Apex3000 coextruded films, its full-service prepress capabilities, and its high-quality, 10-color flexographic printing processes, Mohawk is an industry-leading supplier of products for frozen foods and fresh produce packaging in North America.

Mohawk recently invested heavily in extruding, pre-press, and process printing equipment enabling it to become a leader among frozen food flexible packaging companies. These new assets enable Mohawk to manage cost-effectively the large number of SKUs that are required by its branded and private label customers in these markets.

“Beyond the many financial and strategic considerations supporting this acquisition, Mohawk’s dedicated and skilled employees and leadership team are the driving force behind our two companies coming together. I’m confident Mohawk’s leadership team will continue to grow this business in new and existing markets,” says John Baumann, president and chief executive officer, Ampac.

Mohawk’s entire leadership team will continue with Ampac including its chairman, Bill Gates and president, Dan McFarland. Mohawk, with its 220 employees, will become part of Ampac Flexibles headed by vice president and general manager, George Thomas.

“We are pleased and excited to be associated with Ampac Flexibles. Our management and staff look forward to joining a company that has great people, a diverse capacity and strong technical capabilities that will represent an outstanding offering to our customers and immeasurable opportunity to our team,” says McFarland.

“This is an important time in the rich histories of our two companies. Mutually we gain in product line extensions, in market extension and in geographic extension,” says Thomas. “Having the Mohawk team, their assets, and their long-standing and loyal customer partnerships is a major step in our business development and strategic growth plans.”
