The international air freight division of the US Postal Service has a mail hub in New York’s JFK airport. Each package sent abroad receives a customs label in this facility.

Automatically choosing the ideal vacant spot for a customs label on packages of varying sizes and shapes was quite challenging. 
 
Each package enters a 15-foot tunnel equipped with video cameras. Software analyzes the video data and sends coordinates to our printer applicator as it moves in synch with each package. To withstand this constant jarring movement PCM Image-Tek engineered custom, reinforced printer applicator housings. Our machines in this facility actually hang from their cases as they fly from one package to another.

Label stock would quickly fall off a standard label supply reel as our printer applicator flies around the JFK airport. Therefore, we engineered secure label supply spindles to hold the media in place.
