Packaging manufacturer combines injection moulding and thermoformed co-extrusion to provide a stylish new design for the Dairygold new spreads container.

RPC’s commitment to specialization in manufacturing has been rewarded by Breeo Foods’ decision to relaunch its Dairygold spreads range in a stylish new design that features an in-mould labelled (IML) base from RPC Containers Old Dalby and a co-extruded lid from RPC Containers Hereford.

The decision to relaunch in an IML design was taken after Dairygold developed a new label design to maximise on-shelf appeal. With RPC Old Dalby’s expertise in IML manufacture complemented by RPC Hereford’s capabilities in lid production, the sites put together an attractive package for Dairygold.

RPC Containers - HEREFORD, United Kingdom manufacturers Injection Moulded in-mould labelled (IML) packaging - pots and tubs for spreads and dairy, also Thermoformed tubs.

An additional factor was RPC’s ability to deliver the packaging within the short timeframe required by Dairygold, with the November 2006 launch taking place six months after the pack was commissioned.

The new design runs on Dairygold’s production lines with minimal changes, allowing the company to continue to fill the existing pack, which has been retained for some of Dairygold’s customers, alongside the new IML design. A new label placement system and new mould tooling was delivered to RPC Old Dalby in close co-operation with the technical department at RPC Hereford.

RPC Containers, OLD DALBY, United Kingdom produces Injection Moulded food quality tubs and lids.

The PP base is injection-moulded by RPC Old Dalby in two sizes: 227g and 454g. RPC recommended the selection of a label printer capable of a significant amount of color mixing to produce the high-quality in-mould labels, which incorporate vignettes for a striking visual appearance.

The thermoformed lid is co-extruded in gold and white by RPC Hereford to give a distinctive effect, whilst the image is further enhanced by a self-adhesive label. RPC Hereford developed new tooling for the bespoke lid and the label application utilized existing equipment.

“The new spreads container offers real prestige in both its aesthetic and functional qualities,” comments Ed Moriarty, Lead Packaging Buyer at Breeo Foods Ltd “It demonstrates the value of working with a supplier such as RPC who can bring specialist expertise to pack manufacture.”
