The German injection mould tool makers MHT (Mold and Hotrunner Technology AG), which this year celebrates its 10th anniversary, will have plenty to show visitors to their stand (booth 9713) during NPE exhibition in Chicago. MHT is a leading manufacturer of PET preform moulds on a global basis and this year will be providing additional support for customers in America from a new location in the US.
Continuously advancing mould tool technology, MHT was the first company to successfully introduce high cavity preform moulds (for example 192 cavities) and is still the only company in the world with 192 cavity moulds running in production. One of these moulds will be presented during the NPE show, running on a Netstal machine and outputting over 2 million preforms per day.
Latest mould developments optimise water consumption and maximize heat transfer.
Reduced energy costs and increased mould productivity are offered by the new High Performance stack moulds (HP-Stack) combined with new patented post-mould cooling technology. Cycle time for PET systems can be reduced by up to 30%. Recent tests have shown very promising results and highlighted the huge potential for this technology in the market. The company is also planning to offer HP-Stacks as an upgrade for older moulds.
Multilayer
To meet the increased demand for PET bottles with high performance barrier properties MHT has developed a new co-injection mould system for multilayer preforms. After completing field trials this system will shortly be available for customers in various configurations. One of the options (the “mobile” option) will allow easy conversion from monolayer to multilayer or transfer from one PET system to another.
MHT means more
There has recently been a move to materials other than PET for injection blow moulded beverage containers and MHT now offers moulds and hot runners to produce preforms from clarified PP and/or PLA. Another area of development at MHT is the 5 gallon container, for which the company now produces moulds up to 16 cavities.
Recycling
MHT is committed to plastics recycling. The company offers extensive support to create small scale recycling plants incorporating washing, compounding and palletising stages. An MHT partnership with equipment providers and expertise in this field ensures a cost-effective and reliable process for MHT customers.
