Nampak, one of the world’s largest packaging groups, this month reaffirmed its commitment to the Eastern Cape when its Liquid division opened a new R12 million bottle manufacturing plant in East London.
The plant, which will supply plastic bottles to customers in the dairy and fruit juice industries in the Border and Kei regions, will improve service all round said the division’s managing director, Philip de Weerdt, at the opening.
De Weerdt also said that Nampak was investigating setting up a PET bottling line, if there was serious commitment from its customers.
“Nampak prides itself on offering packs and systems that represent value for money and, equally importantly, which add value to our customers’ products. We have access to the latest international packaging techniques and probably the world’s best research and development technology which is based here in South Africa,” he said.
He noted that as Nampak Liquid was a supplier to the food and beverage industries, the plant would be acquiring HACCP accreditation as quickly as possible.
