Multisorb Technologies, the global leader in advanced active packaging technologies, is highlighting its industry-proven sorbent canisters at INTERPHEX2008. The canister format allows Multisorb to offer customized active packaging solutions to drug manufacturers whose products require moisture and/or oxygen management to ensure product stability. Multisorb’s sorbent canisters are designed to be fully-compatible with high-speed packaging systems and dispensing equipment, enabling manufacturers to avoid costly investments and downtime due to alterations to the production line.

These sorbent canisters are composed of FDA-grade High Density Polyethylene (HDPE), which requires no additional stability testing and offers effective adsorption rates to protect the integrity of drug product formulations. Additionally, the canisters can withstand irradiation for final product sterilization. They are virtually non-dusting, eliminating the potential for product contamination, which is critical for pharmaceutical, diagnostic, and dietary supplement applications. Canister ends are precision welded for increased structural strength and stay sealed even under extreme pressure. Their curved edges allow for problem-free dispensing. Also, printing is presented directly on the canister with inks that meet FDA and EU guidelines for direct product contact, avoiding the use of labels, which can shift, peel off, and jam equipment.

At the INTERPHEX show this year, Multisorb is showcasing two of its most successful sorbent canisters:

StabilOx® Canisters resolve product instability issues caused by oxidation and moisture-related degradation by eliminating oxygen from the packaged environment, thereby reducing the rate of oxidative degradation of the drug product. Unlike traditional inorganic oxygen scavengers, StabilOx canisters also regulate moisture within packaging to establish both the desired Equilibrium Relative Humidity (ERH) and oxygen removal from the drug product and within the package headspace critical for retaining product integrity, performance, and stability throughout the supply chain.

SorbiCap® Canisters were developed after extensive research with pharmaceutical, diagnostic and dietary supplement manufacturers. As a safe, non-toxic sorbent canister that absorbs moisture and/or odors, SorbiCap is particularly suited to the active packaging needs of the healthcare packaging industry. This patented product is specifically designed to eliminate dusting and separation problems. As a high-performance product, SorbiCap has received tremendous response from the healthcare industry. In fact, in order to meet high market demand and avoid supply interruptions, Multisorb recently doubled manufacturing capacity for SorbiCap with plans to triple capacity.
