AGELESS® Oxygen Absorbers Remove Residual Oxygen Chemically


What is AGELESS® Oxygen Absorber?

AGELESS® oxygen absorber is a substance that removes residual oxygen chemically rather than by physical means. The chemical is contained in a small packet or pouch like a desiccant, and placed inside the food package. Unlike most preservatives, it is never mixed into the food product. Oxygen absorbers are economical to use, nontoxic and totally safe.

AGELESS® oxygen absorbers preserve original quality without additives or preservatives. Using a simple controlled atmosphere technique, AGELESS® oxygen absorbers, available from MGC, exhibit an innovative ability to maintain the quality and freshness of a variety of perishable food products.

AGELESS® prevents deterioration due to the presence of free oxygen, which causes foods to lose their natural freshness, color, flavor and nutritional value. What are the major food-packaging applications for AGELESS® oxygen absorbers?

AGELESS® Maintains Quality

Besides preserving the freshness, wholesomeness and flavor of foods, AGELESS® helps to retain nutritive elements such as vitamins and chlorophyll. AGELESS® also prevents oxidation (rancidity) of oils and fats in processed foods like meat and dairy products, nuts, bakery goods, and cake mix.

AGELESS® is Effective

Used in an airtight container, AGELESS® can reduce the presence of free oxygen to 0.01%(100 parts per million) or less. This is an extremely low oxygen level that cannot be reached by nitrogen flushing or vacuum packaging. AGELESS® will also continue to remove the oxygen that may permeate through the outer gas barrier film after packaging. This extremely low oxygen content also prevents the growth of aerobic microorganisms.
Note: AGELESS® cannot prevent development of anaerobic microorganisms (those which do not require free oxygen). 

AGELESS® is Simple to Use

- AGELESS® is supplied in a vacuum packaged container. By just opening the outer bag, - AGELESS® is ready to use (See, How to use AGELESS product).
- AGELESS® can be inserted manually by hand or by an automatic dispensing machine.
In the case of manual insertion, all you need is the gas barrier container and the sealer. It is quite economical.. If you require high speed insertion, an auto-dispensing machine or labeler is available. This can be easily integrated into your already existing packaging line. (Ref. Auto dispensing machine)

AGELESS® Works with Most Popular Gas Barrier Packaging Materials

Metal cans, glass bottles and aluminum bags are well suited for AGELESS® packaging.
AGELESS® is also effective with many of the recently available types of transparent multi-layer films, such as: PVDC coated, barrier nylon, EVOH and silicon oxide deposited which are getting popular for packaging.

AGELESS® Slows Discoloration

Most foods are discolored by oxidation.
Discolored food is not only visually unappealing, but the oxidation can also affect the taste and safety of the product.
AGELESS® slows the discoloration process by reducing the amount of intra-pack oxygen, thus retaining the value of your products longer.

AGELESS® Slows the Deterioration of Oils and Fats

- The oils and fats in food products are prone to oxidation
- The oils and fats in food products stored at room temperature and or in lighted conditions are particularly susceptible to oxidation.
- Using AGELESS® can prevent this oxidization.

AGELESS® Inhibits Mold Growth 

- By creating an oxygen-free atmosphere (oxygen concentration of 0.1% or less), AGELESS® shows a marked ability to suppress the growth of mold.
- The experimental results tabulated below show the growth progress of blue molds even when food items are stored under rigorous inert gas replacement packaging technology.

AGELESS® Inhibits the Growth of Microorganisms

- AGELESS® inhibits the growth of molds and other aerobic microorganisms, but does not inhibit the growth of obligate anaerobes, micro-aerophiles, facultative anaerobes, or yeasts.
- The use of AGELESS® with food products that are preferable to these microorganisms is carried out at your own risk.

AGELESS® is Effective Against Damage by Insects, Worms and Their Eggs

Oxygen-free packaging using AGELESS® is totally safe because of no residue. It allows you to prevent both adult insects and their eggs, a feat not effectively achieved by fumigation. no more worries about the insects listed below, often found growing in cereals. AGELESS® is also effective against mites hiding in bedding.

AGELESS® is Easy to Use

Manual insertion of AGELESS

Simply place the AGELESS sachet into the package, taking care that the AGELESS sachet is not placed behind an insert separator or positioned snug against film or the container wall. Placement of AGELESS into a free-flowing air stream ensures maximum performance.

Automatic insertion of AGELESS

The compact, labor-saving AGELESS sachet dispensing and inserting machine easily attaches onto existing on-line packaging equipment for automatic sanitary placement of AGELESS application strip sachet into form/fill/seal packages, bottles, jars, pre-made containers and cans. The high-speed machine features accurate, reliable motion to ensure proper cuts.
