Synopsis

E²M/Polytron builds high speed filling and packaging systems for Fortune 100 companies. We typically design and install 10 to 20 systems a year. Since 1999, we have been using the emulation features of Brooks Automation’s AutoMod Simulation Software, which connects a 3D simulation model to a PLC. Using Emulation has allowed us to dramatically reduce costly field startup time on new systems by more than a third. As we have become ever more dependent on this technology, we have learned to adapt it to increasingly larger systems. This paper reviews some of the techniques we use to emulate large systems.
