An appeal from a restaurant group has city leaders in Capitola thinking twice about a ban on foam food packaging.
Members of the Capitola City Council say they will reconsider an ordinance due to go in effect in July that would ban the use of polystyrene packaging. The packaging does not decompose and can release toxic chemicals.
The law was passed in December, but the California Restaurant Association has asked the city to repeal the ordinance.
The 22,000 member group says it wants restaurants to have a say in the materials they use.
