KINGSPORT, Tenn., USA – Eastman Chemical Company has teamed with Colt’s Plastics to provide a superior package for a sample cream containing NutriLayer--Eastman’s new, natural cosmetic ingredient derived from non-GMO rice bran oil.

First introduced in Europe and Latin America in April, NutriLayer is being presented to the North American cosmetics market at the annual Society of Cosmetic Chemists Supplier’s Day 2006.

To demonstrate the premium ingredient’s benefits, including ultra moisturizing and reducing the appearance of wrinkles, Eastman scientists formulated a rich night cream containing 5 percent NutriLayer. They also created a light 1 percent formula for active daily wear. The challenge was to find a small, clear container that would convey NutriLayer’s premium feel to a discriminating audience.

“We were looking for a unique material and package that reflected the exceptional performance, look and feel of NutriLayer,” said Nicolas Voiriot, manager, global marketing at Eastman. “Eastman's Glass Polymer was the perfect material for this product launch because of its transparency, high gloss, and visual and tactile appeal.”

Eastman turned to the experts at Colt’s Plastics, a cosmetic packaging leader since the 1920’s, to source the packaging for the NutriLayer creams. Using The Glass Polymer, Colt’s Plastics created a wide mouth, low profile jar that fits nicely in the hand and allows for easy access to the cream.

“This beautifully crafted jar was right for the cream containing NutriLayer,” said Michael Warford, vice president of sales and marketing for Colt’s Plastics. “The container feels heavy and smooth in the hand, features exceptional clarity, and provides a luxurious presentation for Eastman’s product.  We wanted a package with sensory appeal - a perfect match for NutriLayer.”

Colt’s Plastics has extensive experience working with The Glass Polymer for a number of high-profile, personal care industry clients. The product demonstrates exceptional moldability and slow crystallization, is compatible with a wide range of cosmetic ingredients, and works well for both clear and colored containers due to its superior clarity.

“Colt's Plastics innovative packaging solution for NutriLayer definitely contributed to its successful launch," added Voiriot.
