Winterborne’s patent pending EnviroShell™ trapped blister packaging is riding a huge wave of success, recently supercharged by consumer packaged goods producers looking to earn high sustainability scores on Wal-Mart’s Packaging Scorecard active since February, 2008
EnviroShell™, invented by Winterborne and first introduced in 2005, features a unique corrugated design with a proprietary seal that allows it to outperform traditional plastic clamshells and less substantial trapped blister packaging.
EnviroShell™ is made from 100 percent recycled RPET and a minimum of 70% recycled corrugated. It is also recyclable and, compared to clamshells, which it was designed to replace, reduces plastic by up to 90%. Thanks to these qualities, and an energyefficient, full service in-house manufacturing process that slashes transportation costs and holds greenhouse gas production to the minimum, Winterborne customers gain a major sustainability score advantage on the Wal-Mart Packaging Scorecard.
One of the first sustainable packages brought to market and with the longest performance record, EnviroShell™ is widely used by many major brand owners in hardware, electronics, health and beauty, sporting goods and more. With several million products in the EnviroShell™, it has an established record of significantly increasing consumer sales in both the retail and club warehouse marketplaces.
According to Howard Mallen, Winterborne Executive Vice President, the strength and rigidity of EnviroShell’s ™unique construction supports use with larger, heavier products than flimsier trapped blister packages. EnviroShell™ is theft resistant, easily and safely opened and has exceptional longevity, reliably protecting products during shipping, handling and on the retail shelf.
“This is truly a package that delivers a competitive edge. In addition to high Wal-Mart sustainability scores and trustworthy performance, EnviroShell™ communicates substance. The advanced engineering and package construction are coordinated to establish a powerful, substantial product presence that is proving to enhance consumers’ perception of value,” Mallen said.
