A RANGE of Arnott's biscuit packets provides misleading and deceptive information to consumers about ingredients, the Federal Court has found.
Action started by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) led to a court finding this week that Arnott's breached the Trade Practices Act.
Arnott's Snack Right range of fruit biscuits "falsely conveyed to consumers an overall impression that the filling in the biscuits consisted predominantly of the fruits referred to in the name of the product and depicted on the packaging,'' the ACCC said today.
Packaging describes the Apple and Blackberry Fruit Pillow biscuit as "crammed with apples, blackberries and sultanas''.
The biscuit contains 1.7 per cent blackberry concentrate, 38.8 per cent sultanas, 12.9 per cent apple concentrate, and 8.6 per cent dried apple concentrate.
In response to the Federal Court finding, the ACCC said Arnott's had agreed to amend the affected packaging, refrain from similar conduct and publish an online clarification. |
