Independent Can Company of Belcamp, MD. has purchased Bertels Can Company, an 85-year-old specialty packaging manufacturer, located in Wilkes-Barre, PA.  Bertels manufactures containers used for the packaging of snack foods and for industrial applications. The company’s product line features 10-1/4” and 12-1/4” round tapered cans, in a wide assortment of licensed stock designs and solid colors, that nest together to save on freight costs.

The Bertels plant employs 25 people with over half having more than 20 years with the company. “The Bertels brand and product line is widely respected in specialty food markets, and is the perfect complement to our decorative tin line,” said Rick Huether, President of Independent Can.  Lou Goeringer, President and CEO of Bertels Can for over 50 years adds, “with the acquisition, the future of Bertels is more secure than ever and the joining of two great traditions of quality and service will benefit our loyal customers.”
