Design and Concept Services
Our knowledgeable sales people and our highly creative and experience in-house artists and engineers stand ready to assist with custom artwork for your project. We can take an existing design, concept, idea or functional need and turn it into a unique package. Working with the latest technology we guide and assist customers through every step of the process from concept to finished package. In 2005 we installed the Kodak Workflow System permitting Independent Can Company to provide all separations of our customer`s artwork. This system will allow us to provide proofing for approval in full preparation for plate making.

We make stock and custom cans and components for the packaging of nuts, coffee, filters, welding rods, and a host of other applications. Products include cans for vacuum pack with a variety of easy open closures. Available in round, square, rectangular or custom shapes, these packages feature plug and ring closures, hermetic sealing, fluid containment, perforations and special components. Special testing equipment and quality assurance procedures are developed to ensure consistent production. As with all of our tins, industrial and special function packages can be custom decorated to further enhance product salability. Since 1929 Independent Can has strived to operate in an ethical and responsible manner in all aspects of the business. There is no difference when it comes to the steps needed for responsible stewardship of our environment. Long before environmentalism was in vogue, Independent Can took initiatives and implemented programs to reduce waste, save energy, eliminate pollutants and cut costs. As the manufacturer of decorative tins that are made from tin-plated steel we participate in steel recycling and all of the steel that goes into our cans contains recycled steel. When you tour our plant you will be able to see large totes used for scrap steel that will be hauled away to one of the more than 2000 steel recycling facilities in North America. Recycling steel helps the environment in a number of ways. Not only is the recycled steel used to make new products but the process itself saves resources and energy. Recycling steel uses 60% less energy than melting down ore to make new. Steel takes less effort to recycle due to the simple fact that it can be separated from materials heading for land fills and from other impurities by a magnet. This is a claim that cannot be made about aluminum recycling. As a matter of fact more steel is recycled each year than aluminum, paper, plastic and glass combined! (www.recycle-steel.org) Steel adds to the shelf life of products, reducing waste in that way, but is also more environmentally friendly than poly bags, boxes and foil lined paper. The steel industry has become very “green” and so has Independent Can. Based on employee research and suggestion we’ve implemented a program to recycle and reuse recycled solvents from the cleaning of our printing presses. Our lithography plant was built to exceed EPA standards at the time and continues to be a model for environmental responsibility. Our folding cartons are made from 30% recycled materials. The employees in each department are invested in the achievement of the company’s goals for a better world through consistent voluntary efforts.

Our desire for exceptional quality lithography and responsive, flexible lead times led us to take the bold step of becoming our own printer in 1991. Our metal decorating facility is a specially constructed “building within a building”, adjacent to our main operation, constructed to exceed EPA requirements. In a short period of time we became an award winning, leader in the metal decorating industry. The addition of our Metalstar II, six color printing press in 2004 enabled us to print more efficiently and with near-photographic quality. This technological marvel is the only one of its kind in the United States. We also have two thermal coaters, 2 and 4 color presses, each with ultraviolet trail coaters. Concept to Completion Driven, once again, by the goal of process control and improvement, we invested in the latest Kodak prepress and plate making equipment. In addition to art services our in-house creative team is able to take a design or concept from computer to plate.
