Adept Distributed Controls
Adept controllers are designed to take advantage of Adept's SmartAmp technology and SmartServo architecture to create a distributed control system.
SmartAmp Technology
The Adept SmartAmp is designed to be mounted on the mechanism at the point-of-use. The SmartAmp has an embedded processor, which executes the servo processes. For single-axis applications it can even serve as the motion controller.
Placing the servo-drive on the mechanism allows significant reductions in: panel space required for the controls system; cabling required for multi-axis mechanisms; implementation costs. By embedding a powerful DSP onboard the SmartAmp, the servo loop closes at a higher rate, providing improved performance through improved settling times and more accurate path following.
SmartServo Architecture
With the introduction of the Adept SmartAmp and SmartModules, the Adept SmartServo architecture was born. Since then we have continued to introduce products based on the SmartServo architecture, including: the SmartController family, Servo Kits, the sMI6 motion control interface, the AdeptSix and Adept Viper robot families and, finally, the Adept Cobra s600/800 robots.
Because these products are based on the SmartServo distributed controls architecture, the controls components are mounted at the point-of-use rather than in a centralized cabinet, which results in: less space usage, a reduction in cabling, dramatic cost savings and improved reliability.
