Synopsis

PTI wins 1st Prize Technology Award at IPA in Paris for the SEAL-SCAN™ Inspection Technology used for off-line and high speed on-line SEAL Inspection of Pouches

Applications: Retort Pouches are inspected at production line speed, eliminating manual inspection and incubation, reducing cost, increasing quality level towards Six Sigma.

Tuckahoe, New York, November 4, 2004. PTI (Packaging Technologies & Inspection LLC) wins 1st Prize Award at the IPA in Paris, Categories “Process and Innovation” for its new technology, SEAL-SCAN™, on-line PTI-540/550 and Model PTI-525 off-line. This SEAL-SCAN™ technology, developed by PTI using Non-contact Airborne Ultrasound, has proven to be a highly effective, reliable and cost reducing method in the seal inspection of flexible packages for both on and off-line applications.

Applications:

The SEAL-SCAN™ inspects the seal for flaws and defects on flat or stand-up pouches made of any type material such as foil, plastic, film, paper or TYVEK™, printed or non-printed, color or transparent. The SEAL-SCAN™ Pti-540 is designed for integration into pouch filling & sealing machines running at line speed. SEAL-SCAN™ Pti-550 is a stand-alone pouch inspection system offering 100% on-line inspection at up to 250 pouches/minute.

SEAL-SCAN™ Model Pti-525 provides off-line inspection and an in-depth quantitative evaluation of SEALS made of a variety of materials. The exact location of delamination, invisible flaws, product inclusion, material and seal defects are detected and quantified with absolute repeatability. This non-destructive, non-invasive inspection technology produces an opto-acoustic image of the heat seal quality, quickly identifying seal defects that may result in a bad product.

Benefits:

The immediate benefits of the SEAL-SCAN™ technology is real time process control, increased quality level towards Six Sigma, cost savings as a result of eliminated seal defects, eliminated manual inspection and incubation, product on hold and recall events. Early and thorough diagnosis of seal defects is the key to true production process control, enabling packaging and sealing problems to be accurately identified and corrected before problems develop. Payback of a SEAL-SCAN™ can be as little as a few months.
