WorldStar Winners Selected in Prague!

October 27, 2005, World Star 2005 attracted 294 entries from 29 countries around the world. Out of this146 were selected as WorldStar winners of 2005 by the jury in their meeting in Prague,Czech Republic, 13th of October, 2005. Five of the entries were also nominated for President’s Award as they show special qualities in their packaging solution. The jury consists of 22 representatives from the World Packaging Organisation (WPO) and one representative from the International Packaging Press Organisation (IPPO) .

This years WorldStar jury meeting was held in Prague, in the Czech Republic. Host was SYBA the Czech Packaging Association. During the three day meetings the delegates also had the possibility of visiting the two Czech manufacturers, Thimm Obaly and Obchodni Tiskarny.

The five nominees for the President’s Award for 2005 are:

- COOL CAP, Georg Menshen GmbH & CO KG, Germany (category Beverage)
- ERGOPAC PHARMA, Emaballator Växjöplast AB, Sweden (categorey Pharmaceutical
& Medical)
- Ouro Fino Blue, Empresa de Aguas Ouro Fino, Brazil (category Beverage)
- PowerPritt Multipurpose Gel, Henkel KGaA, Germany (category Other)
- Steam Pack, Develpack S.R.l., Italy (category Food)

The winner of President’s Award will be made public at the award ceremony for the WorldStar

Winners in Beijing, China, April 19th, 2006.

The 3-day meeting also included a WPO board meeting where Keith A. Pearson from the
Institute of Packaging South Africa, was elected as a new President for the WPO from April 2006. He will become the first time ever WPO President from Africa and will succeed Dr Alexis Stassinopoulos.

- The WPOboard meeting also decided to sponsor a residential packaging training programme in Mumbai, India during 2006. The programme aims to train the trainers and is directed primarily towards the needs of the developing countries says Dr Carl Olsmats, General Secretary of WPO.
