Security fibers and yarns from Adhesives Research subsidiary ARmark™ Authentication Technologies, LLC, Glen Rock, PA, consist of common polymers such as nylon, polypropylene, polyester. Center of each fiber contains brand owner-specific information such as logo, product coding, country of origin, country of destination, distribution sites, simple numbers, letters, patterns, which are visible under benchtop microscope for easy authentication. Although designed to be woven into textiles, fibers also can be incorporated into packaging materials such as extruded films, bottles, labels, adhesives, cartons to discourage counterfeiting, provide means of authentication. Incorporating security fibers in packaging material should not impact converting process. However, care must be taken to prevent improper usage of fibers, ensure secure disposal of any waste or scrap.
