ESS’s V 30 Robotic Case Packer integrates a FANUC robot with custom end effecters, and Allen-Bradley controls to create a system that forms/loads/seals cases. View the V 30 at Pack Expo Booth N-3336, McCormick Place, Chicago, IL, Nov. 9-13, 2008.

ESS’s next-generation Model V 30 Robotic Case Packer integrates a FANUC robot with ESS-designed end-of-arm tooling, and Allen-Bradley controls from Rockwell Automation to create a system that forms, loads, and seals cases while occupying a very small footprint. ESS Technologies, Inc. will demonstrate the V 30 at Pack Expo International Booth N-3336 being held at McCormick Place in Chicago, Illinois November 9-13, 2008.

A variety of models of FANUC robots may be specified, depending on the payload, speed and reach requirements of the application. Designed with advanced automation technologies from Rockwell Automation, the V 30 is equipped with an Allen-Bradley® ControlLogix® programmable automation controller (PAC), which integrates discrete motion and robotic control on one platform, saving valuable implementation time. ESS Technologies, Inc. custom designs end effecters to allow the V 30 to handle jars, bottles (plastic or glass), tubes, bags, and/or cartons at speeds of up to 30 cases per minute. Quick change end effecters allow faster changeover for multiple applications.

Allen-Bradley Kinetix® 6000 servo drives and Allen-Bradley MP-Series™ Low Inertia servo motors from Rockwell Automation are integrated with the V 30 controller to provide seamless motion on the machine’s multiple axes. The compact size and tight integration of the drives allows ESS engineers to attach them in the most convenient place on the V 30, maintaining the small footprint and using very little wiring. In addition to new controls and drives, the V 30 has also been engineered to help reduce the number of required spare parts and simplify system maintenance. Open access to the system allows for easier inspection and cleaning.

Case sealing options include self-adhesive tape or hot-melt glue. The innovative addition of an optional integrated pallet cell (Model V 30P) further increases system performance and flexibility while conserving valuable space in the end user’s facility. Model V 30HS offers a high speed servo-driven case transfer system, and Model V 30M eliminates the case magazine, allowing it to be used to fill pre-formed trays or cases.

As an authorized FANUC Robotics system integrator, ESS Technologies, Inc. has the expertise needed to integrate the V 30 into existing and new packaging systems to meet any application. Superior design and turnkey systems integration from ESS Technologies, Inc. make the V 30 Vertical Robotic Case Packer the ideal solution for case packing applications in the pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, cosmetic and consumer product industries.
