During the International Poultry Exposition in Atlanta, GA, CFS held live demonstrations of the CFS ShrinkPak packaging System.  As the only manufacturer in the world, CFS offers both thermoformers and films for the production of shrink packs. Products can be packed either with a shrink film as top and bottom web or with a rigid film as topfilm and a shrink film as bottom web. The new CFS ShrinkPak system saves costs, improves logistics and ensures better hygiene and wrinkle-free packs.

Based on the long experience in the field of shrink films and thermoformers, CFS developed the ShrinkPak System. “Now food producers can work with one partner responsible for the performance of the total system: the film as well as the deep-draw machine. And of course they get full technical support from us”, says Bernard Dujardin, Director Packaging Systems at CFS.

Save costs

Shrink packs are ideal for products with irregular shapes since they compensate size differences without any problems. The CFS ShrinkPak System is therefore especially suitable for poultry full birds as well as cuts, fresh meat cuts and roast, cooked ham and roast, cheese portions, fish and processed meat consumer packs.
In comparison with traditional shrink bag making, the new system saves costs since less operators are required to run it.  Maintenance and operational costs are lower due to reduced down time and maintenance frequency as well as efficient sealing and cutting technology. Moreover, material costs are lower than for shrink bags. Food producers will also benefit from improved logistics and better hygiene since there is no stock of bags and therefore no risk of contamination in the packaging area.

Two film systems for wrinkle-free packs

The CFS ShrinkPak films are based on the well-proven CFS 3D shrink bag technology. The shrink films stand out due to excellent thermoforming properties and perfect 3-dimensional shrinkage over 40%. There are two systems for food producers to choose from. The product can be packed with a shrink film as bottom as well as top film. In addition CFS exclusively offers a solution with a rigid film, a top web and shrink film as bottom web. For this purpose, CFS has the rigid films C-base and eXbase® available. “Thanks to our flexible packaging system, we can now offer poultry producers the perfect solution for his specific product. With our shrinkfilm, ShrinkTop and ShrinkBase, whole birds, for instance, can be packed in an attractive, appealing and cost effective way”, explains Ina Heyl, Product Manager Packaging Materials.

The shrink films have barriers that match with the product specific needs. For instance, there are films for cheese ripening, transport and end-customer packs. CFS ShrinkPak films guarantee an appealing presentation of the packed product thanks to crystal clear transparency and a high gloss and provide for a perfect skin effect.
The tight-fitting film prevents product fluids discharge and adds stability to the pack. Of course the shrink film is printable and can also be labelled. For this purpose, CFS Labellers are a perfect match.

Quick and easy to load ShrinkPak thermoformer

The CFS ShrinkPak thermoformers are hygienic and quick to load. They are easy to operate via an interactive, intuitive panel with a large touch screen. The hygienic design makes sure those parts that need to be cleaned regularly are easy to access. The thermoformer can be customized exactly to the specific needs. For instance, available room for production as well as additional equipment can be taken into consideration.
CFS offers a basic line layout customized exactly to each food producer’s needs and the products he packs. Small customer portions can be packed as well as large pieces of meat for industrial purposes and transport.
