Plans for the UK´s first plant to recycle plastics into material for food grade packaging have been revealed by the Waste and Resource Action Programme (WRAP, London; www.wrap.org.uk). The 35,000 t/y facility, to be located at Dagenham and operated by Closed Loop London (www.closedlooplondon.com), will recycle a mix of PET water, soft drinks and cosmetic bottles. It will use patented technology developed by United Resource Recovery Corporation (Spartanburg, South Carolina / USA; www.urrc.net) to sort, granulate and clean the waste to a quality suitable for food applications.
