RFID, or Radio Frequency Identification, is revolutionizing the way packaged products can be tracked. The technology was prompted by the need to update the less efficient bar code system.

Despite having a number of advantages over the bar coding system, such as its re-usable read/write capabilities and automated visibility, RFID cannot completely replace the former. The high cost associated with RFID tags is a major reason.
