Agricultural giant ConAgra Foods Inc. will use Procter & Gamble Co.'s food technologies in a number of products as part of a licensing and capabilities agreement announced Thursday.
The deal, whose value was not disclosed, will allow ConAgra access to nutritious food ingredients and sustainable packaging technologies, according to a news release. ConAgra will be the exclusive licensee for the ingredients and technologies, including Calsura, a form of calcium used to fortify foods and beverages. It will also have access to P&G's research and clinical trials for Calsura.
P&G developed Calsura for its former Sunny Delight orange drink, which is now a standalone company. It has also licensed the ingredient to Tropicana for its orange juice since the late 1990s, said P&G spokesman Jeff LeRoy. ConAgra is licensing other technologies from P&G as well, but is not disclosing them, he said.
"P&G is a company of brands, and as a result we have technologies and core expertise in many categories and capabilities," said Jeff Weedman, vice president for external business development at Cincinnati-based P&G.
