Lyons Media Inc., publisher of Package Design Magazine, reveals the impressive entries into the fourth annual Package Design Makeover Challenge with the publication of the July/August 2007 issue. The Makeover Challenge is a one-of-a-kind competition involving four package design teams, an actual line of packages from a brand that is open for new ideas, and online voting.
This fourth edition of the Makeover Challenge is sponsored by Paxonix, and participating design teams represent some of today's top package design professionals: Design Resource Center in Naperville, IL; Perennial Inc. in Toronto, Ontario; Tridimage in Buenos Aires, Argentina; and The Zunda Group in South Norwalk, Connecticut.
The task before the teams was to recreate new functional packages and a new brand identity for four SKUs of the Citrus Magic brand of all-natural air fresheners and household cleaning products. In addition to enhancing the packages' "consumer connection," ergonomics, and brand messages, the teams were also challenged to find innovative sustainability solutions and production efficiencies.
"What is amazing about the Makeover Challenge every year is the way each design team develops unique solutions around a comprehensive and compelling brand strategy," says Chris Lyons, publisher of Package Design Magazine. "The participants in this year's Makeover Challenge again rose to the challenge with their inventiveness in bringing fresh new approaches to package design that were also true to what the Citrus Magic brand stands for. The Challenge competition offers designers the chance to see how their peers would respond to a hypothetical, "blue-sky" package design challenge."
