Leading international food manufacturing company, Bakkavor Group, has purchased two highly sophisticated T10 XP X-ray inspection systems from METTLER TOLEDO Product Inspection division of Leicester, UK.
The X-ray machines will be used to inspect ready meal & snack products manufactured at Katsouris Fresh Foods and will provide the highest level of product inspection to meet the demands of the major UK retailers.
Bakkavör Group is the UK's leading provider of fresh prepared foods and produce. The group now operates nearly 50 factories and employs over 17,000 people in eight countries. They manufacture over 4,700 products in 17 product categories ranging from pizza, ready meals and salads to dips, dressings, soups and desserts, which are predominantly sold under customers own brand.
Dedicated to quality
As they are committed to providing outstanding service, quality and value, as well as maintaining the highest standards in food hygiene across all its sites, Bakkavor seeks out suppliers who also operate to stringent quality standards.
Katsouris previously used a series of twin-head metal detectors at its factory in Wembley, London but contacted METTLER TOLEDO Product Inspection for a solution that would not only provide greater levels of contaminant detection and less false rejects, but would also be capable of successfully identifying stainless steel fragments in foil trays and dishes.
The METTLER TOLEDO ‘Safeline’ T10 XP X-ray machines selected by Bakkavor offered high levels of efficiency, low maintenance and simple operation.
Stringent food industry hygiene requirements
Providing maximum sensitivity and accuracy, with manufacture to IP65 standards to meet the stringent food industry hygiene requirements as operated by Bakkavor, METTLER TOLEDO’s ‘Safeline’ range of T10 XP X-ray inspection systems offer the reliable monitoring of products and packaging attributes, along with the capability to detect contaminants such as metal, glass, stone and plastic down to 1mm in size.
Easy-to-understand operating procedures make the detection process simple and straightforward, whilst a user-friendly operator control centre, with 15” touch screen display, provides a visual reference using images or diagnostics data.
Automatic adaptive inspection ensures optimum sensitivity throughout production. The T10 XP’s stainless steel housings easily fit into the food production line, whilst optional IP69K moisture protection ensures the capability to withstand the harshest of cleaning regimes.
Commented METTLER TOLEDO Product Inspection division Sales & Service Manager, Mike Bradley, “Although every customer application must be considered on its individual merits, with numerous food producers utilizing metallic-based packaging materials – or producing food products with high moisture levels which can limit the performance of some conventional metal detection equipment – we are finding that the decision to invest in X-ray inspection technology is on the increase, and by investing in X ray technology these user groups deliver an improvement in their overall contamination detection capabilities
