Screws, Roll on Tops, Tins and Container Ends for the Packaging Industry
Situated in the heart of West Yorkshire, with outstanding communications links, Metal Closures is an internationally renowned company producing metal closures, including screw and roll-on tops, tins and container ends, for the packaging industry. A privately owned company since 1916 you will find our products in virtually every sector of the consumer goods market. From pharmaceuticals to foods, toiletries to chemicals, cosmetics to household products, we are a leading supplier of metal closures in almost any product category there is. We are also the premier supplier of Pre-threaded Screwcaps in the UK, with a complete and comprehensive range of caps to fit all standard bottles and jars. One of our most successful innovations is a range of Snap Open (``press to open``) containers, which were developed for shoe care and furniture polishes. Roll-On Pilfer Proof (ROPP), Slip Lid containers and Composite Tube Ends complete our extensive product range. We have continued to lead the field by offering our clients technical and design advice to help maximise the effectiveness of their packaging. We have access to extensive colour print facilities, so that lids, tops and bases can be decorated to suit any brand livery required. With our in house CAD design capabilities and state of the art CNC lathes, we can provide specialised tooling to meet any closure requirements, whether a new `standard` or a unique bespoke design. We manufacture using primarily tinplate and aluminium. As a responsible supplier to the packaging industry, we care about the environment, and use raw materials which can be recycled for future use. We operate from our own site of approximately 7,000 square metres, including finished goods warehousing of approximately 1,400 square metres. Goods can be stored to meet customers` schedules or to produce against orders for customer call off as required. Our Press Shop houses 16 Strip Feed and 19 Sheet Feed Presses ranging from 15 to 45 tonnes with ancillary thread rolling, sizing and cutting equipment. We believe we have become a market leader by continuing to anticipate our customers` needs and providing high quality products. Over the past few years our business has continued to grow as more and more companies discover the benefits of working with us.

Tins and Containers
Tins & Container Products Slip Lid Containers Our extensive range of aluminium slip lid containers are used worldwide for hair care products including waxes and muds, and also lip balms, seeds and dry products. Sizes range from 9ml through to 150ml fills, and like all our containers can be decorated as you wish. Polish Tins We are leading suppliers of these products, having spent many years refining their design and improving our production. Our current range of ``Press to Open Tins`` is extensive, and was designed and developed in conjunction with a major shoe and household polish manufacturer. We can supply 30ml, 50/55ml, 100ml and 200ml sizes in our standard range. These are all of the rolled edge type, and are ideal for either water or solvent based polishes. However, the usage potential of our range is extensive and not limited to polish, as the exceptionally close tolerances maintained through manufacture ensure that the tins are suitable for most paste substances. Snuff Tins We produce a range of slip-lid snuff tins starting from 36mm, 40mm, 50mm & 64mm diameters. Stringent Quality Control ensures a perfect fit and all of these containers can be decorated to suit customer requirements. Vacuum Sealed Tins Metal Closures produces a small range of vacuum sealed tins for use with tobacco products such as flake and rolling tobacco, and snuff. With a snap open or screw lid fit, each of these containers has a flowed-in-seal which means they can be vacuum packed to ensure the integrity of the contents.

Caps for Jar and Bottles
Threaded Scew Caps, Jar Bottle Caps and other Bottle Closures Threaded Screw Caps We currently produce a vast range of continuous thread CT screw caps with sizes ranging from 18mm dia. Up to 103mm dia. to standard neck threads. They can be produced in either Aluminium or Tinplate and can be decorated to customer`s requirements. Embossing is also a possibility on a number of sizes and confirmation of which sizes can be obtained upon request. Screw caps can be produced, using various types of liners, such as: Expanded Polyethylene (EPE); PVDC (flowed-in seal); Aluminium Foil and even with a tamper-proof IHS liner. Our caps are sold worldwide for use by food and beverage, cosmetics, healthcare and pharmaceutical companies. Roll-on & Roll-on Pilfer-proof We produce a tailor-made range of Roll-on Aluminium shells, in two varieties. Roll-On, and Roll-On Pilfer-proof. Pharmaceutical Caps Our pharmaceutical range of caps is made from aluminium. We provide a choice of six sizes, from 18mm to 31mm pre-threaded closures. The depth is designed to accept up to a 2.8mm thick rubber wad. All caps are manufactured with or without a pierced hole in order to accept a hypodermic syringe. The rubber wad is approved to BS 2463 1962 and is therefore suitable for pharmaceutical purposes. We can cut it to any specified thickness using our own cutting machines, and it is also suitable for autoclaving. These deep aluminium caps can also be supplied ready assembled with EPE or woodpulp wads. Composite Tube Ends We produce a standard range of ends for composite tubes. The ends can be either flat or dished, and supplied with or without embossing. If required, the ends can be decorated appropriately to accommodate branding requirements. For example, many of our customers for this product are in the Whisky business, and require the ends to be decorated to ``match`` the tubes containing the bottle. Our tube ends suit card and paper composites as well as many other materials, and are seen as crucial to the premier brand image for most of the major whisky brands, as well as French brandies and Champagnes.

Bespoke Work
Metal Closures has quickly gained a reputation as being innovative and creative with it`s design and manufacturing capabilities. Many of our products are used as a component in an overall package branding, so now, more than ever, we have to be able to meet each clients` particular needs. With a highly experienced team of engineers, backed by CAD systems and collaboration with the very latest sheet decorating technologies, we can produce new, exciting and unique designs on demand. If you haven`t seen the product you`re looking for, it doesn`t mean we can`t make it. We have 36 different presses, each with interchangeable parts. In addition, we have tooling designers and engineers who can create, from our own CAD generated specifications, pretty much any kind of new screw cap or closure, mostly round, but occasionally other shapes as well.

Company History
The Company has a continuous history dating back to 1854 but it was not until 1906, that the company known as William Murphy & Sons started to use metal topped glass stoppers held in position by wire clips manufactured in house. As technology progressed the stoppers and clips were replaced by metal caps and the company installed equipment to manufacture the new style ``stoppers``. They found they had more capacity than that required for their own product, so the surplus capacity was used to supply other companies and in 1916 the company was floated and called ``The Stopper Manufacturing Company Ltd`` By 1967 it was obvious that the existing factory was too small and in 1968 the present site was chosen and by June1970 production commenced in the new purpose built factory. In 1972 the Company changed owners and became a part of the Metal Closures Group and the name was changed to Metal Closures (Huddersfield) Ltd, later to become M.C.G. Containers and Closures Ltd. 1975 saw the existing premises extended to incorporate a new warehouse so that the manufacturing space could also be increased. 1990 the Metal Closures group was taken over by Wassell PLC. 1993 the company was accredited the Quality Management System, BS EN ISO 9002, now ISO 9001:2000, by Lloyds Register Quality Assurance Ltd. 1996 with three of the original Metal Closures Group companies, M.C.G. Containers and Closures Limited was sold by Wassell PLC and the Omnipack Group was formed and M.C.G. Containers and Closures reverted to Metal Closures. 2004 Metal Closures became an independent Private Limited Company.
