A west Belfast packaging firm has secured a £50 million contract to supply McDonald`s European fast food restaurants for the next five years.

Delta Print & Packaging, who are based in Kennedy Way in Belfast, currently employ around 170 people.

Making the announcement earlier today, Enterprise Minister, Maria Eagle, said: ``This new contract is a testament to the skills and abilities of Delta Print & Packaging which has built up an excellent reputation over the past 25 years for innovative product design and excellent customer service.

``By winning this highly significant contract the company will also, over the next five years, be able to create up to an additional 40 jobs and secure existing employment in an area of real social need.``

Under the contract the West Belfast based firm, will provide high quality printed packaging including fry cartons and burger clamshells for McDonald`s food outlets.

Exporting over 80% of its output the company services several global brand names such as McDonald`s, Gillette, Reckitt Benckiser, Motorola, Nokia and Samsung.

Chairman of Delta Print & Packaging, Terry Cross, said: ``I very much welcome the Minister`s commitment to assisting economic growth in an area which has a history of social and economic deprivation.

``We are very proud of our achievements and see this new contract as further evidence of our success in building Delta`s presence globally and justifying our £20million of investment over the past ten years.``

He continued: ``We have many years` experience of working with major global brands and believe that our success results from a detailed understanding of our customer`s unique requirements and our innovative approach to product design.``

The recent purchase of a state-of-the-art BOBST Lemanic with rotary die cutting machine, following assistance from Invest Northern Ireland, has allowed Delta Print & Packaging to improve its competitiveness and it has also played a key part in helping it to secure the new contract.
