Innovia Films’ biodegradable, compostable NatureFlex™ film is being used as part of the packaging for a leading British cereal producer’s organic range.

Jordans has adopted new bags for the recent relaunch of its organic muesli and granola cereal.  The innovative packs have been developed and manufactured by Alcan Packaging following three years of extensive research and development.

The packaging is made utilising two different certified compostable films – with a structure of one layer of Innovia Film’s NatureFlex™ NE30 film laminated to Novamont’s Mater-Bi.

The bio-based films, along with the inks and adhesives used in the conversion process have been certified DIN EN 13432 by Dincertco, a European standard for compostable and biodegradable packaging.  These packs will break down naturally in 6 to 12 weeks.

“The development of this breakthrough pack is the result of close collaboration between Innovia Films and all the companies involved in the process to respond to an identified customer need.  This new laminate structure used in the first ever fully certified compostable pack, not only extends the applications that NatureFlex™ can be used for, but also highlights the versatility of this sustainable, cellulose based film,” says Andy Sweetman, Innovia Films’ Market Development Manager – Sustainable Technologies.

Sweetman adds that “The unique bag design has enabled Jordans to align their packaging message with the spirit of their product marketing, by providing caring consumers with a biodegradable, naturally-based packaging material.”
