Graphic Packaging International Inc. said Wednesday it will close its Middletown folding carton manufacturing operation, cutting 133 employees.
The move is a continuation of the Marietta, Ga., company's realignment and consolidation effort following the combination of Graphic Packaging with Altivity Packaging.
The unit of Graphic Packaging Holding Co. (NYSE: GPK) said it will end folding carton manufacturing in Middletown by the end of the third quarter. The Middletown folding carton facility will continue to operate and support customers while its business is sent to other company facilities in the United States. The company said it will provide appropriate assistance to salaried and hourly employees affected by the transition.
Graphic Packaging will continue to operate its boxboard mill at the Middletown site, where it produces coated-recycled paperboard for the consumer packaging industry.
Graphic Packaging International also plans to halt production at its paper lamination plant in Elk Grove Village, Ill. About 20 employees will be impacted by the move. The company will continue to operate its two folding carton plants at the Elk Grove Village location. |
