ECKEL & SOHN GMBH

Assembly Machines
Capping and Sorting Machines
Feeding Systems

Highly Technical Modern Packaging Machinery Used in Assembly, Sorting, Capping and Feeding

Eckel & Sohn develop and produce highly technical and modern machines used in the areas of assembly, sorting, capping and feeding. Equipment is developed and manufactured as per the customer’s specification. Successful work is guaranteed with the use of CAD –aided design work in the mechanical and electronic areas of construction. Three dimensional drawings assist communication with the customer and ensure flawless production.

We offer all branches of industries where caps must be assembled, a wide variety of assembly equipment. Requirements come from the following areas:

  • Plastic, beverage
  • Pharmaceutical
  • Food
  • Cosmetic
  • Chemical industries
  • What we can assemble
  • Multipart closures as follows:
  • Screw caps with liners
  • Caps for oil containers
  • Pilfer proof
  • Childproof closures
  • Sports caps

The machines can assemble at a rate of up to 72000 caps per hour.

Continuous Motion Assembly Machines

Continuous motion assembly machines are used for fully automatic assembly of multiple component closures.

Advantages for Products:

  • Continuous motion assembly
  • Gentle handing of components
  • Control of all components
  • Practically maintenance free
  • High speeds – up to 72000per hour
  • Short changeover times
  • Variable speed control with frequency control motors

Indexing Assembly Machines

Assembly machines for the semi-automatic or complete assembly of multiple caps and closures or other small parts.

Advantages:

  • Easy to access the turntable of the machine both for the operator and component feeders due to the position of the stroke shaft in the middle of the machine.
  • More functions can be built in to the machine due to the small pitch circle. Less wear and tear on the motor

CAPPING

New closures bring about the need for the development of new capping machines. Eckel & Sohn is capable of meeting new requirements with impressive solutions.

Capping applications:

We manufacture capping machines for snap – caps for recloseable containers, threaded closures for all types of plastic and glass containers as well as for snap and shrink closures for beer kegs

Advantages of Eckel & Sohn technology:

  • The torque of the capping heads for screw type closures can be individually adjusted by the use of wear free magnetic clutches.
  • The speed of the capping heads’ motor is controlled by a frequency converter.

Advantages of the machines used to screw components together:

  • Variable torque adjustment
  • Wear and tear free magnetic clutches
  • Drive motor of the assembly heads is separate from the main drive motor
  • Variable speed adjustments of the assembly head with frequency converter

Combination Capper and Cap Shrinker for Beer Kegs

Capping and cap shrinking unit (VMS 1000):

Caps and automatically heat shrink pilfer proof caps into the fittings of beer kegs and containers.

The unit can be integrated either into an existing keg conveyor or it can be supplied with its own conveyor. The shrinkage of caps ensures that the end user can easily determine whether or not the caps have been tampered with.

Functional Description:

The kegs or containers are stopped and centered. The cap is applied to the fitting. They are then stopped again at the second station where a thermostatically controlled shrinking head descends and shrinks the cap to the fitting. The shrinking time is adjustable. Due to this adjustment possibility, different types of caps can be run on the unit. Change over to other kegs, party kegs or containers, can, depending upon the individual unit, be accomplished either automatically or manually.

The unit can be offered as a capping unit only, without the shrinking station.

SORTING

In automation of assembly and capping techniques, the automatic feeding and orientation of the part to be handled is very important. In order to accomplish this we offer:

  • Hoppers
  • Circular vibrators
  • Vertical sorters

Vibratory Bowl Feeders

Vibratory bowl feeders are used to sort and feed plastic closures and other small items.

Method of operation:

An electromagnet provides vibration to a package of springs mounted benath the bowl. This causes the parts to be sorted to be transported on an inclined rail in the bowl. The parts are then oriented by different sorting devices during their movement in the bowl. They then exit the bowl in an oriented position.

Advantages:

  • Robust and efficient
  • Gentle handling of parts
  • Speed of up to 30000 parts per hour
  • Protected up to IP54
  • Extremely durable through the use of fiberglass springs
  • Sound deadening cover to protect against noise

Rotary Disc Unscramblers

High speed unscrambler (HLS series)

This HLS unscrambler can unscramble caps where the diameter in greater than the height, with speeds up to 90000 per hour.

These unscramblers are mainly used in the beverage or printing industries where high production speeds are essential. In most cases, compressed air is not required in the unscrambling process.

Mechanical unscrambler (MSH)

With this type of unscrambler speeds up to 20000 per hour are obtainable.they are used mainly to unscramble caps or other small articles where the diameter is smaller than the height.

Mechanical unscrambler (MSHS)

This type of sorter can unscramble large diameter caps like snap caps for vacuum packed coffee cans, etc and operate at speeds up to 150 per minute depending on the size and characteristic of the cap to be handled

All three models come with a floor console.

Sports Cap Unscramblers

Dual unscrambling and feeding unit type (C-2000)

The old system of unscrambling caps either in rotary hoppers or centrifugal sorters cause a large quantity of plastic dust which could go into bottled products. Our new C-200 unscrambler sorts closures extremely gently at very high speeds

Other advantages

  • Two different cap types can be sorted in the unscrambler with a minimum of changeover time. for example a 28mm diameter beverage cap and a 28 mm diameter “push-pull” sport cap can be handled by the new sorter
  • The position of the unscrambler can be determined by the customer: for example directly next to the capping machine or in the closure room where a conveyor system would be used to transport the caps in an oriented position to the capping machine.

Vertical Sorter

Operates at speeds up to 240000 per hour.

Advantages

  • Gentle closure handling
  • Sorting without the requirement for compressed air which results in less dus and abrasions on the closures

Options

  • Vertical transport of the oriented caps
  • Feeding of the caps into the sorter by either a Gaylord feeder, wire cages, or a reserve bin
  • Conveying of the caps either by conveyors belts or a “jetstream” system
  • High sorting rate up to 4000 closures per minute for printing machines

Capping and Sorting Machines

FEEDING

We build feeding systems which feed beverage caps, champagne corks, crown corks and also pre-forms for PET bottles. The feeding of sorted parts can be done by the use of pipe lines, feed tracks, and conveyors.

The following types of machines are available for these areas:

  • Reserve containers
  • Conveyors
  • Pneumatic feeding systems
  • Feed elevators
  • Equipment to empty octabin and pallet cages
  • Linear feeder

Oriented Cap Feeding

Sorting and feeding system for beverage closures.

Advantages

  • Minimizing of plastic dust
  • The vertical sorter can be placed as per the customer’s wishes- for example next to the machine or in a storage room for the closures at some distance from the capping machines
  • The closures can be fed both vertically or horizontally in an oriented position from the vertical sorter to the capping machine
  • Individual solutions for each bottling plant
  • Complete planning by Eckel and Sohn

Feeding Systems (Sf100)

Feeding of small caps closures or small items.

Advantages

  • Automatic feeding of unscramblers on capping or assembly machines
  • Different sizes of reserve bunkers available from 80 – 2500 litres.
  • No limitation on outlet heights
