Packaging Design Consultancy

Established over 40 years ago, DCA has grown to be one of the largest, most successful design consultancies in Europe.

Idea Generation, Design, Engineering, Electronics, Prototyping and Model Making are all located on the same site and integrated by a common company structure and design ethic. We can provide a complete turnkey design service or focused specialist support at any stage in the process.

Project Management

Each project will be actively led by a Director together with a senior Project Manager, establishing clear lines of communication and close working relationships with their own teams. Our multi-disciplinary approach supports concurrent engineering and achieves reduced timescales. Clients receive a clear programme of the various stages with dates and achievements that will be met.

Contractual Arrangements

We attach a high level of confidentiality to all projects, understand commercial sensitivity and are happy to sign a non-disclosure agreement.

The same degree of importance is attached to financial requirements. As well as more traditional fixed fee arrangements, we are very willing to discuss exclusivity contracts or working on an hourly rate or royalty basis.

Medical and Scientific

DCA Design International have expertise in medical and scientific product development, from high volume cost-sensitive disposables, to lower volume high-value instruments.

Project briefs have demanded patent research, user surveys and focus groups, as well as exceptional design functionality, miniaturisation, refined ergonomics and sensitive aesthetic consideration.

Turning advanced new technology or laboratory-based concepts into commercially successful products is a particular strength at DCA.

We have helped our clients to detect elements in blood, deliver drugs, analyse cells, measure gases and particles, as well as monitoring chemical reactions in real time.

DCA are experienced at working with expert clients. Our work covers: diagnostics, drug delivery, surgical devices, prosthetics, anesthesia and respiratory products, laboratory devices, general rehabilitation and hospital equipment.

Much of the medical and scientific work at DCA draws on our team's strength in mechanical and electronic design to provide innovative solutions, whilst ensuring safety and cost-efficient manufacture.

Technical Innovation

To offer the consumer a much wider choice of pre-mixed colours than could currently be displayed in DIY stores, DCA developed a self-service paint tinting system for ICI Dulux. The simplicity of this award winning solution offers a safe, economic and quality consistent product suitable for the world market. This innovative concept was achieved through the right combination of market awareness and our strong technical competence.

Vending

The development of electronic payment devices, graphical user interfaces and security systems are among many features that have been developed for a number of consumer controlled vending machines.

Our vending experience enables us to offer packaging solutions that not only provide reliable product delivery but also reinforces brand integrity in the absence retail of staff.

Sustainable Packaging

Changes in European legislation on sustainable packaging prompted the redesign of the Trax cycle helmet box for Halfords. The new box was lightweight, biodegradable and 20% more compact than its polypropylene predecessor. The simplicity of the box reflected the current Halfords brand identity and supported the new helmet graphic designs provided by DCA.

Consumer and Domestic Products

This fashion-conscious and price-sensitive market has several specialist marketing requirements. Frequently, we are asked to design variants on a basic theme to match particular sector needs. The use of common components can keep production and assembly costs down, whilst creative designs and casings can enable models to appear and be packaged in quite differing styles. We suggest that you utilise a wide range of 3D computer imagery, models and prototypes to ensure that your final product is well accepted in the marketplace. Full size mock-ups can be used to gain feedback from potential users and customer focus groups.
