Zimmer Industries of Hawthorne, New Jersey has announced the availability of a 100 Teeth per Inch microperf specifically designed to allow the "cold scoring" of various plastics. Already in use and tested around the world, this unique product eliminates the slow and costly application of RF (radio frequency) or heat, to allow the scoring (for folding or creasing) of various plastics. It is estimated that the effective use of 100T will reduce the cost of converting plastic packaging by 10-20%. This rule can also be used to create excellent "hinges" in plastic clamshells. Other versions of the company's microperf may be employed to create oxygen barrier perforation and very effective "tear strips" for easy opening features.
