Child resistant, senior friendly compliance packaging Co-developed by Stora Enso and Bosch
- Tear resistant packaging solution from Stora Enso - Need for further protection of inside blister eliminated
Stora Enso Pharma SHR (Small Hands Resistant) is a child resistant, senior friendly compliance packaging solution for oral pharmaceuticals. The unique opening mechanism is based on adult hand size in order to efficiently provide child resistance. The first packaging machine to supply this solution is a joint development between Stora Enso of Finland and Bosch Packaging of Germany providing the worldwide service. It has now been successfully tested and released to the industry. The first machine is planned for small and medium volumes, initial product ramp-ups, and clinical trials.
The unique Stora Enso Pharma SHR solution is a package design constructed out of a special tear resistant board. This packaging solution has been tested successfully in Europe and in the US against the highest standards of child resistance and senior friendliness. Child resistance is achieved entirely by the outer package, eliminating the need for further protection of the blister inside as well as reducing costs and material. Compared to other solutions, Stora Enso Pharma SHR is also more userfriendly and efficient.
The first flexible, semi-automatic production machine available is for contract packing with a variety of possible configurations. A fully automatic line, with online or offline blistering can be supplied as well. This initial system is particularly suitable for packaging almost any existing blister in a child resistant manner without modifications to the blister and with no risk imposed by individual child resistance testing. This allows distribution of a drug in a single blister design in both Europe and the US, with conventional secondary packaging for Europe and Pharma SHR as the child resistant solution for the US.
