High-Speed, Full-Colour Digital Printing of Pharmaceutical Blister Packaging Provides Flexibility to Stay Ahead of Competition.
Munich, Germany – FESPA – 31 May 2005 – Agfa announced today that Flexmed AB of Landskrona, Sweden, has signed an order for a Dotrix inkjet press. The Dotrix press, known as the factory before Agfa’s acquisition of Dotrix from Barco, will be used primarily for printing smaller quantities of blister packaging materials for the pharmaceutical industry onto lacquered aluminium, but at a more competitive cost than is possible with conventional printing. The Dotrix press delivers excellent print quality onto a range of substrates including aluminium foil, paper, laminates and cardboard. “Our clients often need smaller quantities of these materials than we can do cost-effectively using conventional technology,” said Flexmed managing director Tomas Ahlstrom. “With Agfa’s digital press, we have better technology to meet their requirements and at the same time, we are better placed to compete with Asian printers. We have the flexibility to produce jobs just in time and turn a job round in just two or three days if need be.”
“Every new installation of the Dotrix seems to take us to a new application,” said Jan Van Daele, Agfa’s vice president of Inkjet Solutions. “It offers unique productivity and flexibility. Of course conventional technology will continue to be used for larger quantities, but we help our customers Stay Ahead with the Dotrix so they can produce smaller quantities fast and cost-effectively.” Agfa
