Biography
With 30 years of process industry packaging experience, Ralph has a unique view of the interfaces between supply chains, packaging operations, information technology, economics, safety, and performance improvement. As a Principal with Tompkins Associates, he has is responsible for assignments on a wide range of strategic and tactical packaging and non-packaging related supply chain integration issues for clients in the pharmaceutical, food processing, chemical, and petroleum industries. He holds engineering degrees from the University of Texas at Arlington and the University of Houston. He was a member of the Editorial Board for the Materials Handling Handbook; wrote or co-authored chapters in The Supply Chain Handbook (2004), The Distribution Handbook (1985) and The Encyclopedia of Chemical Process and Design (1989); developed AIChE’s Continuing Education on Packaging; is a member of the Institute of Packaging Professionals and other professional societies; has published and presented numerous technical papers; and has been a university guest lecturer and adjunct faculty member. The evolution of packaging line control systems is of particular interest because of their impact on operating costs and quality.
