Dr. Harold Hughes, a native of Western Michigan, was educated at Michigan State University and the University of Arizona. He received BS and PhD degrees from Michigan State and an MS from Arizona. He held faculty positions at the University of Guelph (CANADA) and Virginia Tech before taking the position as Director of the School of Packaging in 1986. After a six year term as Director, he returned to the faculty to teach and conduct research. His program emphasizes computer applications and technologies, such as CAD/CAM, thermoforming, rapid prototyping, and simulation. He has also developed an on-line version of the introductory packaging course which is taught to as many as 450 students per semester, including many non-MSU students. He has published extensively in books, refereed journal articles, other magazine articles, bulletins, etc.
