Environment

Aperio as part of its growth and continuous improvement plan carries out its business with a genuine concern for the protection and enhancement of the environment. The company continually seeks better and more environmentally friendly ways of carrying out its processes. Management has a commitment to educate, train and inform its employees in all areas, including a genuine concern for the environment. Continuous improvement and reinforcement ensure that this is instilled into the company's culture.

We maintain a set of guidelines designed to assist in evaluating the environmental impact of packaging materials and products. As part of Aperio's ideals, there is a focus on the following objectives:

To ensure that new packaging materials or new forms of packaging are evaluated for their environmental impact prior to their introduction and, if possible, modified to ensure minimal environmental impact.

To evaluate the environmental impact of existing packaging and, if necessary, make alterations to any to make it more environmentally appropriate.

To encourage the following waste management options: reduction, reuse, recycling.

Reduction - Aperio are actively pursuing ways to reduce the impact of our operations and products on the environment. We recognise and have in place a continuous down gauging program for plastic films. This initiative is supported by works alongside our key customers and suppliers.

Reuse: Aperio is committed to ensuring that wherever possible the reuse of materials utilised in the manufacture of its products is undertaken. This includes but is not limited to pallets, d-clips, cartons, cores, inks and solvents.

Recycling: Aperio are committed to recycling wherever possible, with a 'nothing is thrown away' philosophy. From small lots of consumables through to film, no opportunity is lost. We perform our own recycling of product. Aperio targets World's Best Practice standards, encompassing waste reduction and protection of the environment. This is supported by a commitment to training and technology.

Australian National Packaging Covenant - Aperio are a foundation signatory to the National Packaging Covenant, which is an agreement entered into by federal, state and local governments and industries involved in the packaging supply chain in Australia. The Covenant provides a framework for managing the environmental impact of packaging from design to disposal in a coordinated approach involving all stakeholders.

The Covenant is a self-regulatory agreement between industries in the packaging chain, and government. It is built around the principles of shared responsibility through product stewardship. We are committed to the success of the Covenant and are part of its continuous improvement program through down gauging of films etc.

New Zealand Packaging Accord 2004 - Aperio is a signatory to the five year New Zealand Packaging Accord. The Accord's official body, The Packaging Council of New Zealand, look to all players in the commercial sector to accept responsibility in whole or in part, financially or otherwise, for dealing with products or their packaging when the items are no longer required. The "producer" (who accepts responsibility) is deemed to be that entity which has the greatest influence over the decision making process (central government, local government, recyclers, packaged goods retailers, packaged goods brand owners or the packaging producer).

Aperio embraces the "Recover, Reduce, Reuse and Recycle" strategy and the sector action plans, are committed to extended producer responsibility and the success of the Accord.
