Pet Preform Molds and Hotrunner Technology

MHT was founded by 11 partners, in December 1996. In 2003, MHT has a payroll of more than 100 employees. Our staff has many years of experience in the PET mold and hotrunner business. MHT´s core business focuses on PET molds, mold components, hotrunners, and specialized molds. Over the past five years MHT had a tremendous growth. Within this short period of time, MHT has emerged as one of the major preform mold suppliers. The key to this successful growth: our experience, product quality, and short lead times. Today MHT serves customers in more than 40 countries worldwide.

Apart from quality and price, the market shows a growing need for faster order-to-delivery. To meet these requirements, our mold operations have been purpose designed and equipped for maximum precision at minimized machining times.

MHT works with Pet Preform Molds and Hotrunner partnering with Krauss Maffei, Arburg, Netstal, Fostag, AG and GTT

Pet Preform Molds

  • MHT delivers horizontal PET Preform Molds for Arburg machines up to 16 cavities.
  • MHT supplies vertical PET Preform Molds up to 72 cavities for Krauss Maffei machines.
  • MHT manufactures horizontal PET Preform Molds up to 144 cavities for Netstal machines.

Hotrunner Molds

The Fostag AG is manufacturer of multi-cavity hotrunner molds used for the following items:

  • Packaging
  • Cutlery, glasses, cups
  • Medical and pharmaceutical

GTT

GTT has combined partnership for customers' advantage.  We have integrated and professional cycle time reduction and quality improvement. We ensure mold optimization with the help of modern technology as e.g. infrared camera, and are experts for injection moulding and mold manufacturing (member of GKV).

High Mold Availability

Manufactured to very high standards with corrosion-resistant steel plates, and optimized for preform production, MHT molds have a long service life before refurbishing becomes necessary. The mold design guarantees fast and easy servicing and maintenance.

MHT molds are very operator-friendly. Regular maintenance work can be carried out   directly at the machine with minimum time inputs. The forming parts are easy to exchange and enable production of different preforms from the same mold. Hardened mold parts with deeply engaging tapers support the lifetime of the mold and minimize maintenance.

Precision Machined

State-of-the-art engineering machines and finishing techniques are a guarantee of high quality molds and short lead times.

Low Crystallinity

Hotrunners with valve gates developed for PET processing expedite the effective heat transfer to the nozzle tips and offer a wide processing window with consistently high product quality. This results in short start-up times and minimizes crystallinity in this area.

Short Cycle Times

Well-balanced cooling channel layout and turbulent water flow ensure very consistent cooling and efficient heat transfer away from the preforms. Separately cooled neck rings lead to high preform quality and short cycle times.

Preform Molds Standards

  • Precision machined
  • Well-balanced and durable
  • Perfectly balanced hotrunner system
  • High mold availability
  • Low-crystallinity gate cooling
  • Short cycle time

High Quality Preform Molds

  • No crystallinity
  • No scratches
  • High surface quality
  • Low acetaldehyde (AA) levels
  • Minimum eccentricity
  • Strong dimensional stability
  • Consistent weight
  • Flashless split-lines

MHT molds meet these criteria as a result of our long-standing experience in designing and manufacturing PET molds.

Mold Inserts

  • Cores: stainless steel with titanium-nitrate core surface finish
  • Locking rings: with air-assisted preform ejection (blow out)
  • Neck rings: stainless steel, water cooled
  • Cavities: highly polished and chromed surfaces
  • Gate inserts: stainless steel with highly polished surfaces

Perfectly Balanced Hotrunner

Perfectly balanced hotrunners ensure uniform melt flow and pressure in all cavities. The design of the melt channels minimizes shear and pressure loss, and provides a uniform flow to all cavities. Optimized heat distribution results in consistent AA levels across all cavities.

Systems Division

We have long-standing experience, in manufacturing and designing hot nozzle systems. All systems are externally heated and devised according to client's specifications as regards materials, final weight and production requirements, such as color changes.

Products for Hotrunner Systems

  • Complete hot runner systems distributors, nozzles, and hot nozzle plates
  • Insert systems distributors and nozzles
  • Systems with up to 144 cavities
  • Control devices
  • Service and maintenance

Automotive Hotrunner

  • Standard components offer quick-connect assembly
  • Sealed for ultra injection pressure
  • Replaceable heaters and thermocouples provide precision temperature control
  • Turn-key systems are available with pre-wired electrical connector box
  • Optional air or oil connections, pre-tested and operation ready

Packaging Hotrunner

  • Quick access to all gates, tips and heaters.
  • Reduced maintenance cost.
  • Naturally balanced melt flow for even filling in high cavitation hotrunners
  • Uniform temperature for homogeneous melt and high quality part surfaces
  • Individual tip control for crisp clean gates
  • Highly efficient cooling access for shorter cycle time
  • Optimized melt bores for quick color change
  • Molybdenum alloy tip inserts for wear resistance
  • Compact components for mold strength

Various questions have to be answered when deciding in favor of a particular hot nozzle system. These entail not only the choice of material or gate, but also fundamental issues, such as whether an internally or externally heated system should be preferred, what balancing is needed (natural or rheological) and whether needle closing systems are better than open nozzles.

A well-constructed hot runner system directs the molten matter from the machine nozzle regularly across the gate points without impairing the material's properties

Criteria for the Use of Hotrunner Systems

  • Less stalks
  • Shorter cycles
  • Production of mold units without re-processing
  • Production of mold units with long flow lines

Criteria for Selecting the Right Hotrunner System

  • Gate type
  • Final weight of the articles
  • Final weight of the articles and cold channel in the case of combined hot/cold systems
  • Material (plastic)
  • Number of injection points and mold recesses
  • color changes
  • Handling and maintenance ease
  • Back-up services

All MHT Systems Are Externally Heated

  • Even heat inputs to the melting channel from both sides of the distributor and the nozzles
  • Unimpeded flow of material into the channels
  • Minimum pressure loss
  • Swift color changes possible
  • Use of ceramic supports means up to 80 percent less heat loss for the hot runner plate and thus a very even temperature in the nozzles
  • Prime thermal separation of the distributor thanks to the surrounding air passage

Balanced Flow of Material

Thanks to the natural balance maintained in the flow of material through the melting channels they are equal in length and diameter the molten material reaches all cavities, whereby pressure loss and elasticity is the same in all cavities.

72- Cavity Cork Mold

  • Optimised mold design for a standard injection molding machine (150t)
  • Stainless steel mold guarantees long life times
  • Special cavity surface permits no after treatment (texture)
  • Long life guide bushings to lead the ejector pins
  • Mini valve gated nozzle design (35mm diameter valve bushing) allows extremely small distances between the cavities
  • Consistent weight of the products realised by individual tip control and uniform melt-flow
