Biography

Norman Davis began his career in developing applications for Chevron Polymer Division creating applications polypropylene resin. As Manager for new product development at Hercules in 1980, he worked with food companies, co-packers, polypropylene resin molders, and film/foil converters to develop new concepts for food packages. Working with Research & Development Associates, he worked in the development for 'Meals Ready to Eat', which was the first commercial procurement by DPSC for a shelf stable package, feeding combat soldiers and military food service. MRE production was refined which spawned a variety of packaged shelf stable foods for the military that led food companies to adapt this technology for consumer markets. Microwaveable heating technology came to the forefront that prompted development for a rigid plastic easy open barrier food container for convenience stores. His direct efforts with a major food company led to the Lunch Bucket Single Service package being sold today in food and convenience stores. Non-foil structures were developed for use in microwave heating that provided oxygen and moisture barriers for packaging foods to extend food quality for ambient and refrigerated products. He started ToP Inc. in 1989 to offer consulting services for food packaging as many processors do not have an intimate knowledge of what materials and processes are available today.
